Frequently asked questions
Certification, uses, set-up, sizes, care, delivery, returns: answers to the questions we are asked most often.
What is the Tybelt?
A tool belt: you wear it around your waist and it doubles as a work strap. It is certified for 2 tonnes and always stays with you.
What activities can the Tybelt be used for?
DIY, outdoors, van life and everyday wear. Thanks to its certification, it is also used for climbing and work at height, and many tradespeople rely on it.
Where is the Tybelt made, and what strap does it have?
It is designed in France and made in Europe, with a 35 mm tubular strap. The Tybelt Pro, on the other hand, has a rigid 42 mm strap.
Can the Tybelt be worn every day like an ordinary belt?
Yes. It goes with jeans, work trousers or hiking trousers. The black Premium also works with a smarter outfit.
What is the difference between a webbing belt and a tactical belt?
The Tybelt is a flexible webbing belt designed to be worn every day; the Tybelt Pro keeps the Tybelt buckle with a rigid 42 mm strap for accessories. The Tactybelt is a rigid tactical belt, with a clip-on Cobra buckle, for the field and for carrying gear.
Can it replace a lashing strap?
Answer being written. In the meantime, see theuser booklet.
Is it a survival belt?
It is an everyday belt whose strap is certified EN 566. It does the jobs you expect of a survival belt, with a strength tested in the laboratory.
Is it heavy?
Answer being written. In the meantime, see theuser booklet.
Does it stand up to rain and mud?
Answer being written. In the meantime, see theuser booklet.
Is the Tybelt really certified?
Yes: it is category III PPE, compliant with EN 566, with an EU type-examination by APAVE Sud-Europe (no. 0082). This applies to the Tybelt Standard and the Premium; the Tybelt Pro and the Tactybelt are not EN 566 certified.
What markings are on the strap?
The size, the CE marking, BBM Équipement, 22 kN, EN 566, 0082, the year of manufacture, the logo and an “i” that refers to the instructions.
What does “certified for 2 tonnes” mean?
It withstands 22 kN, about 2.2 t (2,800 daN measured in testing). This is a breaking strength, not a working load, and it can decrease over time.
Which carabiners can be used with the Tybelt?
Only NF EN 362 connectors, passed through the webbing loops and never through the metal buckles.
What mistakes should be avoided when using the Tybelt?
Threading the strap the wrong way, leaving a loop against a sharp edge, passing the connector through the metal buckles, using the strap twisted or with a knot. There must always be at least 10 cm of tail.
What should be done with the Tybelt after a fall or a heavy shock?
It must be retired immediately, even if it looks intact.
Can the Tybelt be modified or repaired yourself?
No, this is forbidden. Only the manufacturer may work on it.
Does the Tybelt replace a harness or a fall arrester?
No. This is not provided for in the instructions and is not recommended.
How do you use the Tybelt as a lanyard?
With the strap open, a connector at each end, in the webbing loops.
How do you form a closed loop with the strap?
Pass the end through the large buckle then through the small one, go around the small one, pass back through the large one, leave 10 cm of tail and apply tension.
How do you place the strap around an object?
Flat, without twisting, with the seam and the loops away from the attachment point.
Can two straps be linked together?
Yes, to make a larger loop: each end passes through the loop of the other, without twisting, with 10 cm of tail.
What can the Tybelt be attached to?
A sound anchor, using a safety chain whose components are all compatible.
Are special skills needed to use the Tybelt?
It is reserved for competent or supervised people. Each user takes responsibility and must read the instructions.
How do I choose my size?
Depending on the model, sizes range from S to XXXL (Standard: S to XL; Premium: S to XXXL; Pro: M, L and XL). See the size chart in the buying guide or on the product page.
What if I am between two sizes?
Check the size chart or write to us. Exchanges are free once per order, within 30 days.
What is the difference between the Standard, the Premium and the Pro?
The Standard is orange, with no engraving. The Premium comes in orange, khaki or black (stitching and label in the chosen colour, strap always black) and has an engraved buckle. The black Premium has a buckle painted black, with grey stitching and logo: it is the most discreet. The Pro has a rigid 42 mm strap for attaching accessories and also withstands 2,200 kg, but it is not EN 566 certified.
What is the Pro Pack?
The belt with two carabiners. Not to be confused with the Tybelt Pro, the model with a rigid strap.
Are the carabiners supplied with the belt?
No, they are bought separately or with the Pro Pack. The instructions are always supplied.
Can I use my own carabiners?
Yes, if they are NF EN 362 and compatible.
Should the Tybelt be checked before every use?
Yes, a quick look at the strap, the loops and the stitching.
Does it need to be inspected regularly?
Yes, at least every 12 months, by a competent person. We do not offer this inspection. In a company, it is inspected like other PPE.
When should the Tybelt be retired?
If the strap is cut or damaged, if stitching threads are broken, if a buckle is deformed, after a shock or at the slightest doubt.
How do I wash the Tybelt?
In clear water with neutral soap, 30 °C maximum. In a machine, use a delicate cycle without spinning. Air-dry, away from heat and UV.
How should the Tybelt be stored?
Dry, in a ventilated place, without compressing it and protected from UV.
What is the lifespan of the Tybelt?
5 years in normal use, less with intensive use.
